Ms. Despoina Despotopoulou

PhD Student

BIO

Despoina obtained a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2020 at the University of Crete, Greece. During her final academic year, she performed a research project for her dissertation on the synthesis and characterization of layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanocarriers for potential application in drug delivery systems. In 2021, she completed her MSc studies in Nanomedicine, offered by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, by the Medical School and the Department of Pharmacy. Her bibliographic Master Thesis focused on the transdermal administration of nanoparticles.
Despoina joined the Nanomedicine Lab in April 2021 as a Visiting Master student for 4 months. The aim of her project focused on the study of graphene oxide sheets as carriers of biologically active molecules (peptides, adjuvants) with significant pharmacological activity. Since October 2021 she is a full-time PhD student at the Nanomedicine Lab, partially funded by the EU Graphene Flagship project. Her current research is focused on graphene-based hybrids as platforms with immunomodulatory functions.
